The Conversation Truck has stayed busy, reaching out and giving others a platform to express themselves. We began by working with two activist organizations supporting the BLM movement. From there, we shut down Sunset and Laurel for a block party filled with conversations from community leaders and the public, handing out snacks to peaceful protestors and engaging with the community to hear the voices of the movement inclusive of their struggles and ending with calls to action.

Artists came together throughout LA to help their local community. For example, in Santa Monica, we painted on the front of the businesses boarded up. The truck facilitated conversations with business owners, police officers, and mothers who had lost children due to police brutality. Our effort wasn’t without star power, as MGK joined the conversation truck to head out to YG X BLM’s march in Hollywood, attracting 50k people out for the cause. We energized the crowd with music as we rolled through the rally and gave out snacks and beverages. Additionally, we had voices from the community speaking to the public throughout the entertainment.

We later started from Macy Gray’s Braid Bar, the starting point of the Pride March on Hollywood Blvd. We gave out snacks and beverages from our partners to the marchers as they passed by, sharing encouragement for their day ahead. Then we migrated with Macy through the march where we parked on Crescent Heights to facilitate conversations with influencers Gia Gunn and Blossom C. Brown, BLM’s Director of Legal in LA, and facilitated voter registration with PAL. Tiffany Haddish and Luenell also spoke to our crowd for two primary event days.

We were lucky enough to partner with Social Ripple Effect, Black Women’s League, and The Laugh Factory for a day filled with conversation. We got to hear from Los Angeles leaders and the general public while hosting interesting commentary from previous white supremacists and ex-Latinx gang members. We especially loved this day as it sparked great and meaningful conversation as we broke out into groups.

Our impact was captured in the videos, photos, and messages we received from our audience. We invited speakers to come onto the Conversation Truck and share their stories. Needless to say, it was incredibly moving. People cried, laughed, and sang together. It was a bonding moment for the entire city and we are humbled to have been a part of it.

“The Conversation Truck is amazing. I had a chance to listen to their speakers, and they were one of the main reasons why it was the best day of my life.”
